Circulo Cultural in association with the Redwood City Public will host their second celebration of "Day of the Dead", November 1, 2013 6:30 PM. in Downtown Redwood City to raise funds for the library collection.
Welcome speech and procession at 7:00pm with Redwood City Mayor, Alicia Aguirre.
The celebration will include music, altars contest, procession, food and crafts and free activities for children. Music by: Mexican singer Rafael Turincio and Grupo Feju.
The Day of the Dead is celebrated in Mexico on November 1th. On this day, Mexican families go to the cemetery, visit the graves of their relatives, clean and maybe paint the grave, put flowers (marigold or wonders) and light candles.
Also at home, Mexican families make special altars dedicated to dead relatives. The altars range from very simple to some that are very elaborate. They are often full of pleasure objects giving life to their dead relatives, including food and favorite drink. The altars dedicated to the souls of dead children include toys, candy and other goodies.
As part of this celebration guest Bay Area native and long-time Redwood City business owner, floral designer and artist Aili Ice of “Aili Ice Designs” artist will display an art installation at Courthouse Square from November 1st through November 4th. Aili Ice will celebrate a decade of success and growth by contributing a large scale and very personal art installation to the city’s Dia De Los Muertos celebration. Also guest Mireya, Villanueva will display an art installation at Redwood City Art Center from October 28th through November 4th
