Fill Station Program

Redwood City is offering recycled water to residents and commercial users!  Recycled water is an important drought-resistant water supply that significantly reduces potable water demand.  Redwood City's recycled water is approved for a variety of outdoor uses, such as landscape irrigation and use in water features.

Training

All recycled water users need to attend a short training prior to receiving recycled water.  Users only need to attend one training at the beginning of their application process. The training is 15 minutes with an additional Q&A session at the end.

Residential training is offered on an on-demand basis. Please call Public Works at 780-7464 or email to recycledwater@redwoodcity.org to schedule a training. Trainings are held at Public Works Services:

Public Works Corp Yard
1400 Broadway St
Redwood City, CA 94063

Commercial Customers: Call Public Works Services to schedule an appointment, (650) 780-7464.

For Residents

In 2015, residents obtained 437,000 gallons of recycled water through the Residential Recycled Water Fill Station Program! Due to the upcoming rainy season, the residential fill station will be closed during the winter and spring months. The program will begin again on Tuesday, July 5, 2016.

For Commercial Users

Recycled water is available to all commercial users, even those outside Redwood City's service area. Commercial users are charged for recycled water at the applicable rate.

Program Requirements:

  • Apply for a construction meter at City Hall (1017 Middlefield Rd), or call (650) 780-7210
  • Visit the Public Works Corp Yard (1400 Broadway St) to complete the recycled water use permit packet
  • Attend a short on-site training
  • Obtain a purple meter and fill up on recycled water!

Please read the program guidelines for more information. Commercial users are required to track their recycled water consumption and report it to the City. Fill out this record sheet and submit by the 25th of every month.

There must be a designated site supervisor for all commercial sites using recycled water. The Site Supervisor is responsible for:

  • Maintaining the site in compliance with State regulations

  • Avoiding and/or detecting cross connections to the potable water system
  • No run-off of recycled water into stormdrains, streets, and sidewalks
  • Training on-site personnel in the safe handling and use of recycled water. This includes any third-party contractors that may conduct work on the site and use recycled water.
  • Maintaining the site's recycled water system in good order: prevent and fix leaks, minimize overspray
  • Notifying and submitting to the City plans for proposed modifications to any part of the recycled water or potable water system for authorization
