ABOUT THE TOUR

This will be the second public trophy tour (woohoo!) held in the past three years and will feature both the 2012 and 2010 trophies.  The focus of the San Francisco World Championship Trophy Tour, presented by Bank of America, is to share Major League Baseball’s Commissioner’s trophy, crafted by Tiffany & Co., with Giants fans in Junior Giants communities throughout northern California.

Fans can view the trophies in person at each stop during a specified, two-hour period on a first-come, first-served basis.  The viewings are free to the public with a suggested donation of $2 per person to the Junior Giants League hosting the event and Bank of America will match contributions to the Junior Giants program, up to $10,000!  Fans will have the opportunity to have a professional photo taken, by Giants Fan Photos, and can purchase those photos on-line and, in some cases, on site.  The trophies will be transported in a 2013 Sequoia Limited courtesy of Toyota.

“It was really important to our organization to create a trophy tour which allowed us to connect with our fans and the more than 20,000 kids who participate in our Junior Giants baseball program,” said Larry Baer, Giants president and chief operating officer.

Junior Giants is the flagship program of the Giants Community Fund, which serves more than 20,000 boys and girls in 80 underserved communities throughout northern and central California and southern Oregon.  It is a free and non-competitive baseball program that has served as a model for MLB youth initiatives.  Using baseball as the hook, Junior Giants provides opportunities for children to demonstrate confidence and leadership, to link with adult mentors and to develop a strong understanding of the importance of literacy and healthy living. Locally, the Junior Giants has been running in Redwood City since about 1998 and serves 150 participants annually that would not normally have the opportunity or means to play baseball.  Redwood City’s Junior Giants program accommodates two age groups, ages 5-7 and 8-10, during a summer program for 8 weeks. Junior Giants is an instructional league designed to introduce kids to the fundamentals of baseball. The League ends with summer BBQ celebration and the kids attend a San Francisco Giants game.

What are the dates and times of the World Championship Trophy Tour presented by Bank of America stops?
A. The Tour will occur throughout the months of January, February, and March leading up to Opening Day 2013.
