Redwood City's G.R. Cress Bird Bath Project
Description
The G.R. Cress Bird Bath Project is a public art program,
created and managed by the Redwood City Civic Cultural
Commission, with the intent of building unique public art
that can function as a bird bath.
This project was generously funded through a
donation by Redwood City resident Gene Cress.
Project Status
The G.R. Cress Bird Bath Project is ongoing. In 2007 we
sucessfully completed a call-for-artists. Four pieces were
selected but due to an assortment of complications,
none of those pieces were installed. Planning and approval
for two of those pieces is still ongoing. In 2008, a
separate selection was fast-tracked as part of a new construction
project and that piece has been installed. There are several
other pieces in various stages of planning and approval.
Though this project is well funded, our process is tedious,
slow, and is managed by a volunteer crew.
While there is not currently an open call-for-artists, we
constantly accept and consider proposals for future
G.R. Cress bird baths. Please send proposals or qualifications
to publicart (at) redwoodcity.org.
