MINUTES OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES
REDWOOD CITY PUBLIC LIBRARY
November 9, 2004
Trustees Present: K. Douglas, B. James, Z. Sweeney, R. Madrigal, and U. Ferguson
Staff Present: Library Division Manager M. Kramer and Administrative Services L. Andrade
Other Staff Present: Community Libraries Supervisor E. Meeks
CALL TO ORDER
Trustee Douglas called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm in the Small Meeting Room of the Main Library.
PUBLIC COMMENTS There were no public comments.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR EVALUATION The Board had a closed session with the Library Director from 7:05 pm to 8:10 pm for his six-month evaluation.
MINUTES MOTION On motion by Trustee James, seconded by Trustee Ferguson, the Board unanimously approved the minutes of October 2004.
WARRANTS MOTION On motion by Trustee Sweeney, seconded by Trustee Madrigal, the Board unanimously approved the payment of warrants # 8620 to # 8673 and the payment of usual and necessary invoices through November 9th.
EXPENDITURES REPORTS Division Manager Kramer reviewed the October expenditure reports with the Board. She noted that the Library continued to do well by staying under budget.
LIBRARY DIRECTOR'S MONTHLY REPORT Division Manager Kramer reviewed the monthly report with the Board:
- The Library will be closed from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm for an all staff in service on Friday, December 3, 2004. The Library will reopen from 2:00 to 5:00 pm.
- The Board discussed fundraising for the future Redwood Shores Branch Library.
- Division Manager Kramer said that Library programs have been very successful.
SCHABERG NEEDS ASSESSMENT The City of Redwood City would be accepting bids until 3:00 pm, November 10, 2004. CLU Supervisor Meeks has met with potential bidders and attended several community and school meetings to educate the public about the renovation process. Meanwhile, CLU Supervisor Meeks and Youth Services staff have been going out in the mornings to bring the Library to the schools. The project is currently out to bid and work will begin as soon as it is awarded. The Schaberg Renovation team will try to get this item on the City Council agenda by the end of the month.
STATUS REPORT ON REDWOOD SHORES LIBRARY CLU Supervisor Meeks presented the Redwood Shores Library plan to the Board.
APPROVAL OF 2005 LIBRARY CLOSURE DATES On motion by Trustee Sweeney James, seconded by Trustee James, the Board unanimously approved the 2004 Library Closure dates.
MATTERS OF BOARD INTEREST
- Division Manager Kramer presented the remodeling plan for the main Library's lobby.
- Trustee James reported on the workshop he attended at the Cerritos Public Library.
UPCOMING EVENTS
CLU Supervisor Meeks is working with Community Works to put on a Martin Luther King, Jr. display and festival on Saturday, January 15, 2004 at the Library. It will be called "Long Walk to Freedom."
ADJOURNMENT MOTION There being no further business or announcement, the meeting was adjourned at 8:52 p.m. to December 14, 2004 at 7:00 pm in the Small Meeting Room of the Main Library.
