Redwood City
Celebrates 135th Birthday with Downtown Bash! Redwood
City, CA - March 19, 2003 - Redwood City, CA – Downtown
Redwood City will reverberate with the strains of "Happy Birthday"
on Saturday, March 29th as the City celebrates its 135th Birthday, with
help from Redwood City Redevelopment Agency, Downtown Business Group,
and the San Mateo County History Museum. The big birthday bash is on,
and all are invited to join the fun on Hamilton Street between Broadway
and Marshall Street, starting at 12:00 noon. Come early and hear the Elks
Band play their music.
Birthday parties aren't just for kids – this one promises to be
great fun for the entire family, from toddlers to seniors! Even with the
street closed down, there's barely enough room for all the fun and celebration:
- An incredible
BMX bike stunt show by "Planet X," the renowned stunt bike
team that will amaze and astound as they negotiate an urban "mousetrap"
made of a junk car, ladders, boxes, and planks. Look for stunts by "Planet
X" throughout the afternoon.
- Live big band
music and fantastic singers to entertain the party-goers.
- The incredible
frisbee dogs putting on a high-flying show of canine agility.
- An exhibit of
classic cars and a vintage fire truckto bring back memories from the
last century…and before.
- Skateboard demonstrations
on a 60-foot half pipe
- Free entry that
day to the San Mateo County History Museum
- Inflatable slide
and bounce house for kids (get free coupons from downtown merchants).
- A cycling clinic
featuring coaches who work with the world's top professional bicycle
racers, sponsored by Sea Otter Classic (limited to 30 participants,
advance registration required, starts at 8:00 am; contact Sea Otter
Classic at 530-661-9500 or info@seaotterclassic.com
for information)
- Food booths
- See a spectacular
Birthday cake shaped like a dome and cookies, bird release, color guard,
and singing of Happy Birthday and the National Anthem.
- Hear reflections
on the Redwood City of yesterday, today, and tomorrow by local officials
and from the oldest living ex-mayor of Redwood City, Carl Britschgi.
- Goodie bags and
free stuff.
- Raffle of a mountain
bike courtesy of Specialized Bicycles and Sea Otter Classic, to benefit
the San Mateo County History Museum and the Downtown Business Group.
There's nothing like
