For Immediate ReleasePortion of Middlefield Road to be Closed to Through-Traffic as Part of Culvert Relocation
Redwood City, CA - May 8, 2003 - Middlefield Road just north of Jefferson Avenue will be temporarily closed to through-traffic to allow for continuing construction of an underground storm water culvert in the area.
The street will be closed between the 'southern' driveway of the Middlefield/ Caltrain parking lot, and Winslow Street (see map at www.redwoodcity.org/closuremap).
This closure is scheduled to begin as early as Monday, May 12, 2003 and will be in place until approximately July 2, 2003. The project at that location will be completed before the annual 4th of July parade, and the closure will not change the location of the Farmer's Market. The entrance to the Caltrain parking lot will be maintained, although a number of parking spaces will be unavailable for the duration of the street closure. Appropriate signage and detours will be in place, and motorists are urged to use extra caution when driving in the area. People driving on Middlefield at that location will be detoured onto Jefferson and Broadway.
This culvert relocation is necessary so that excavation of Redwood City's underground garage, and ultimately the retail/cinema project, may take place. The underground storm water culvert work has been taking place in the Main Street parking lot, through the 'alley' between City Hall and the post office, and into Jefferson Avenue. The new culvert will be connected to the existing culvert at Middlefield Road, and at Redwood Crossing (the Broadway entrance to the Main Street parking lot).
During the culvert relocation, the City asks drivers and businesses in the affected area for their patience and understanding, and apologizes for any inconvenience that may occur.
