"Go Back in Time for a Day" - Redwood City Co-Sponsors Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse

Redwood City, CA - August 18, 2003 – Residents and visitors to Redwood City can go back in time for a day, during "Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse" an event which is a favorite of families from throughout the area. Many wonderful activities are planned for the entire day, Sunday, August 24, 2003 from 10 am to 4 pm. The San Mateo County History Museum will host Victorian Days at the Old Courthouse located at 777 Hamilton Street, in Downtown Redwood City. The City of Redwood City is providing additional sponsorship for this event, which will show off the Museum as one of the centerpieces of our Downtown.

Visitors will enjoy food and craft vendors, live music and other entertainment, and even free dancing classes offered by Broadway's Arthur Murray Dance Studio. A special appearance by Miss Redwood City is also planned, and there will be vintage fire trucks along with a traditional bucket brigade providing demonstrations. The famous old-time dunk tank will be in full swing, pie eating contests will draw hearty competitors, and the Broadway Art Center will sponsor a children's mural painting. The Redwood City Redevelopment Agency is sponsoring old-fashioned horse drawn carriage tours from the Old Courthouse to the historic Lathrop House, and on to the Fox Theater. And, look for booths and activities sponsored by Redwood City's Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department, the City's Civic Cultural Commission, and lots more!

Children's activities include old fashioned hat making, creating rag dolls, arts and crafts, fun in the bounce castle, face painting, bean bag toss, bubbles, old fashioned children's games, and a special appearance by the Redwood City Children's Chorus. History Lane is back at the Old Courthouse again this year with 15 different cities setting up booths inside the Old Courthouse in Courtroom B. Be sure to catch the play, "Victorian Villains," which will be performed at 11:00 am and 3:00 pm, and the Victorian Fashion Show at 1:00 pm in  Historic Courtroom A.
