Community Invited to Learn All About Redwood City’s Dollars and Cents, and Offer Perspectives on Redwood City’s Upcoming Budget
Redwood City , CA – City staff is in the process of preparing the proposed 2006-2007 Redwood City budget for City Council consideration next month. Part of that preparation is ensuring that the community has ample opportunity to learn about and take a close look at the proposed budget elements - and to offer their own thoughts, ideas, and comments for inclusion in the City Council’s deliberation.
Two identical community budget workshops are scheduled:
- Tuesday May 23, 6 pm
Fair Oaks Community Center
2600 Middlefield Road
- Wednesday May 24, 6 pm
Veteran’s Memorial Senior Center
1455 Madison Avenue
Redwood City is known for providing such community opportunities in a comfortable and inviting atmosphere which fosters easy participation and open, frank discussion. At these workshops – which are not Council meetings - community members will enjoy dinner together before hearing a brief overview of the budget process and then a more in-depth review of the budget options. Then, each table of participants will discuss budget issues and report back to the full group for further discussion.
All comments from this sure-to-be-lively dialogue will be provided to the City Council as part of its budget deliberation package. The Council will subsequently hold at least two budget study sessions, scheduled for June 19th and June 26th, at which there is yet more opportunity for community input into the adoption of the 2006-2007 budget.
According to participants in previous years’ budget workshops, a highlight has been learning about the overall budget process and how finances work in Redwood City. Staff does a great job of providing a clear and understandable overview of the budget, leaving participants with a solid knowledge of Redwood City’s budget process and elements. Spanish translation services will be provided at the meeting.
The City is asking for RSVPs to this invitation by Monday May 22nd so that sufficient food can be provided and so we know how many people will need translation services – however, last-minute drop-ins are of course more than welcome. People interested in attending should call 780-7300 to RSVP, or to get more information. The workshop is expected to last approximately two hours.
