Celebrate the 4th of July in Downtown Redwood City - Food, Games, Parade, Festival, Fireworks!

Downtown on-street parking meters are free on the 4th! Due to the parade and festival activities, a number of downtown streets will be closed to traffic and parking. However, on-street parking meters on the open streets downtown will be free on the 4th of July. Garages and gated lots will still be enforced.

Redwood City, CA - June 25, 2007 – The 4th of July Redwood City tradition continues, as the Peninsula Celebration Association and new “platinum” sponsor Symetra Financial bring family fun, all day long to Downtown Redwood City. And this year, the Main Street Event, sponsored by the Redwood City Downtown Business Group, will make the 4th of July even bigger, better, and more fun for everyone!

The entire community is invited to join family, friends, and neighbors for a spectacular day of celebration at the finest 4th of July party on the peninsula. All of the day’s details and a site map are online at www.parade.org.

The day starts with a gourmet pancake breakfast benefit by the Redwood City Firefighters Association from 7:30 – 10:30 am, a 5K parade fun run starting at 9 am, and the remarkable 69th annual Redwood City 4th of July Parade with floats, marching bands, and the newly-crowned Miss California, starting at 10 am.

Then throughout the day there is an incredible variety of fun family activity - live entertainment, food and beverages, a “battle of the marching bands,” fabulous kids’ area with face-painting, bounce houses, and interactive games, and for the teens there is the amazing Euro-jump (like an upside down bungee – not for the faint of heart!), and a rock climbing wall. A ride-filled carnival will be underway at Brewster and Veterans, and the great arts and crafts fair features a wide variety of items, all hand-crafted by talented artists and available for purchase. Items include paintings, fine jewelry, pottery, clothing, flower arrangements, woodcrafts, sculpture, toys, and more!

The Main Street Event presents even more great times for the family, with live music, lots of food from pink popcorn to hot dogs to mom’s apple pie, crafts, face painting, contests, and prizes! The Main Street Event should not be missed – it’s on from noon until 4 pm and it’s all part of Redwood City’s premier Downtown 4th of July event.

And last but certainly not least – the spectacular fireworks extravaganza, presented by Symetra Financial, visible high above the Port of Redwood City, starting at about 9:30 pm. The parade.org website has information on parking and the best viewing locations.
