Redwood City Seeks Applicants to Fill New Vacancy on Housing and Human Concerns Committee

Redwood City, CA - August 11th, 2008 – The City of Redwood City announces an opportunity to fill a new vacancy on the City’s Housing and Human Concerns Committee. Members of the community are invited and encouraged to show their Redwood City pride by offering their interest, experience, and enthusiasm for the benefit of their City by applying for this appointment. The selected applicant will serve the remainder of the unexpired term, until May 31, 2012. Applications are available by calling the City Clerk’s office, or online at

The deadline for submitting applications is 5 pm, Tuesday, August 26th 2008.

The objective of the Housing and Human Concerns Committee is to advocate for the improvement of the quality of life of Redwood City citizens and to assure that human considerations, as set forth in the General Plan, are given adequate consideration in physical and economic decision making. In general, the Committee will:

  • Monitor changing social needs within the community and make recommendations for improved, changed and/or new services.
  • Promote community awareness of social problems existing within Redwood City.
  • Coordinate human service activities within the community.
  • Promote adequate housing for all persons.
  • Advocate housing selection by location, type, price, and tenure, and a free choice of housing for all citizens.
  • Monitor and recommend changes, when necessary, in the housing element and the human services element of the General Plan.
  • Develop and recommend Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Programs and strategies.
  • Serve as the citizen participation vehicle for the CDBG Program Application Process and Human Services Financial Assistance Funds Consolidated Plan to assure citizen input in the determination of use of those funds.

Applicants’ basic requirements are that they have an interest in civic and community improvement, are 18 years of age or older, are a United States citizen, and are a resident of incorporated Redwood City. The deadline for submitting applications is 5 pm, Tuesday, August 26th 2008.

The City’s appointed advisory bodies are an important and valued part of our City government, where public involvement is actively encouraged and supported. Members of these boards, commissions, and committees represent Redwood City’s diverse community and bring new ideas to the City Council and staff, helping them to make the best, most informed decisions possible for the benefit of everyone living and working in Redwood City.
