Redwood City, CA - August 19, 2008 – The new state-of-the-art Redwood Shores Branch Library will open to the public on Saturday September 6th, with a special ceremony at 10 am followed by a day of fun and activities for the entire family. The community is invited to join in the grand opening celebration of this truly unique learning resource. The library is located at 399 Marine Parkway in Redwood Shores.

Strolling, costumed book characters, live music, book making, twisty balloon creations, a delightful café, kids’ fun storytime, video games, a beautiful cedar deck connecting to the San Francisco Bay Trail, giveaways, and more will welcome everyone to the new library. Refreshments will be available, and everyone can get a brand new library card and be among the first to check out materials. This is a distinctive gateway to Redwood Shores, and a beacon to the community as a central gathering place of learning. The beautiful new library is nestled into a curve of Belmont Slough, and provides an inviting, comfortable, and fun atmosphere filled with rich learning resources.

Its Environmental Interpretive Center, scheduled to open a bit later in the fall, will feature the life in the sloughs, wetlands, and Bay, offering a community destination for interactive and fun environmental education. Some of the highlights of the Environmental Interpretive Center will be depicted on display boards at the grand opening to excite the public’s interest in this great feature, along with bird watching with the and a live shark display.

The library’s inspiring nautical theme permeates the building, from its architectural design to the storytelling lighthouse, and even a sailboat-shaped bookshelf and surfboards in the teen room! A children’s room, ample community meeting rooms, as well as multipurpose rooms make this a library that will be a great resource and asset to the community. The Redwood City Library Foundation headed up a successful fundraising effort resulting in $850,000 for the library’s “opening day collection.”

This is a grand opening not to be missed – everyone is invited to join the fun and experience the new Redwood Shores Branch Library, 399 Marine Parkway, starting on Saturday, September 6th at 10 am!
