Redwood City's "La Gran Posada" Holiday Event for the Entire Family on December 18 – Plus, Santa Visits All Redwood City Libraries!

Redwood City, CA - December 8, 2008 – Redwood City's "La Gran Posada" brings a lively international flavor to our local holiday celebrations. On Thursday, December 18, the community is invited to enjoy a great variety of fun holiday activities including storytelling, music, arts & crafts and other kids' activities, free photos with Santa, piñatas, prizes, and of course the dramatic and meaningful Posada procession. This free event is from 4 – 8 pm Thursday, December 18, 2008 at the Fair Oaks Library, 2510 Middlefield Road in Redwood City.

And, kids and adults alike will get the chance to see Santa at all of Redwood City’s libraries! Here is Santa’s library schedule:

  • Monday, December 15, 7 – 8 pm – Downtown Library
  • Tuesday, December 16, 4 – 5 pm – Schaberg Library
  • Tuesday, December 16, 7 – 8 pm – Redwood Shores Library
  • Thursday, December 18, 4:30 – 5:30 pm – Fair Oaks Library (during La Gran Posada)

As a celebration of the nativity, Christmas for Latino families often includes the symbolic "Posadas" taking place the nine days before Christmas. The Posada procession is a reenactment of Mary and Joseph going from inn to inn, seeking lodging for the night. This wonderful tradition is brought to life in Redwood City, combined with a multi-cultural festive flair and fun activities for the entire family.

The community is invited to share in this enriching and inspiring experience, and perhaps gain a new perception into the meaning of Christmas.

Schedule of events:

  • 4 – 6 pm - Arts & Crafts
  • 4:30 – 5:30 pm - Photos with Santa!
  • 6 – 7 pm - Stories and Songs with Victor Hugo Santos
  • 7 - 7:30 pm - Annual Candlelight Procession
  • 7:30 – 8 pm - Piñatas and favors

This wonderful, fun variety of activities is sure to please every member of the family and bring them a cross-cultural holiday experience.
