Redwood City Wins California Redevelopment Association’s “Award of Excellence” for Courthouse Square / Downtown Streetscape Improvements
Redwood City, CA - March 24, 2008 - The Redevelopment Agency of Redwood City has won a California Redevelopment Association (CRA) “Award of Excellence” for the Courthouse Square, the Courthouse façade renovation, and the Broadway and “ Theatre Way” streetscape improvements. Each year the CRA recognizes redevelopment projects from around the state that have significantly benefited their communities. Redwood City is proud to accept this Award of Excellence, which honors the City’s investments in the heart of downtown, fostering a sense of place, enhancing community pride, and creating the city’s comfortable, inviting “outdoor living room.”
The Redevelopment Agency managed the project, which included the improvements made in the Courthouse Square, as well as construction of a new underground public parking garage, installation of directional signage, and parking improvements. The centerpiece is Courthouse Square, featuring a large, decoratively paved plaza at the foot of the Courthouse. Flanking the central plaza space are two semi-enclosed pavilions, and a series of ornamental fountains featuring water cascading into two basins. “ Theatre Way” provides daytime and nighttime outdoor dining opportunities for those coming to the theatres and to downtown.
In recognizing this project, the CRA notes that the heart of the city has been revived as the hub for community activities and is becoming the entertainment center for Redwood City residents, and for the peninsula. Representatives of the Redwood City Redevelopment Agency will receive their CRA Award of Excellence at the 2008 CRA Annual Conference and Expo in Anaheim on March 26th.
