Redwood City Promotes from Within for New City Manager
Redwood City, CA - May 16, 2008 - The City Council of Redwood City has announced that Peter Ingram, the Interim City Manager, has been selected as the new City Manager. The appointment will be made official at the Council meeting on June 9th, and will be effective immediately thereafter.
“Peter is just the right choice for Redwood City in so many ways,” said Mayor Rosanne Foust. “Beyond his experience, talent, and deep knowledge of the City, he is clearly very dedicated to our community-building vision. Peter’s leadership will carry the City forward in every way.”
The appointment of Mr. Ingram was the result of an exhaustive and lengthy process, which yielded a pool of 44 applicants for the Council’s consideration. That process included two community input workshops which were invaluable in helping the Council to further define and develop a profile of the ideal candidate. The Council interviewed a total of 10 applicants, meeting with the top five in a marathon session just this week, and Mr. Ingram was their unanimous choice as the candidate who best fits the unique philosophy, values, and culture of the community of Redwood City.
“I’m honored by the trust and confidence the City Council has in me, and grateful for their continued support,” said Mr. Ingram. “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m very excited to be selected as City Manager of the absolutely best, most involved and committed community on the peninsula!”
Mr. Ingram has served as interim city manager since last November, upon the retirement of long-time city manager Ed Everett. Prior to that appointment, Mr. Ingram was director of the City’s Community Development Services department for a year-and-a-half, and was the Public Works Services director for 14 years. Before coming to Redwood City, he worked in public works for the City of Richmond, and overseas as a project manager for major public works projects in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Mr. Ingram and his spouse Yvette Pirie are 13-year residents of Redwood City.
