Community Invited to 2008 Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration
Redwood City, CA - January 16, 2008 - Redwood City’s 23 rd Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration focuses on our community’s most important members – our youth – to help carry forward Dr. King’s legacy of seeking equality among all people, to bridge cultural differences, and to celebrate the bountiful diversity of our community. For this year’s celebration, Redwood City is partnering with Public Allies Silicon Valley, and Boys and Girls Clubs of the Peninsula to host a celebration honoring the legacy of the slain civil rights leader.
The community is invited to join the celebration on Friday, January 18th at the East Palo Alto Boys and Girls Club, 2031 Pulgas Avenue in East Palo Alto, from 6 to 7 pm. The event features local youth from Redwood City, Menlo Park, and East Palo Alto who, after gathering earlier in the day to prepare, will then present their creative reflections on Martin Luther King Jr.’s life and legacy. Local Poetess Kalamu Chaché will also be participating, offering her latest poem in honor of Dr. King.
