Redwood City Presents the First Annual Salsa Festival – Downtown!
Redwood City, CA - September 8, 2008 - The First Annual Redwood City Salsa Festival is Saturday, September 20th from noon to 8 pm throughout Downtown. It guarantees a fun-filled day of tongue-tingling salsa, great activities, music and entertainment, food, beverages, and a wonderful time for the entire family!
Everyone will enjoy three music stages including the Courthouse Square Salsa Stage with free dance lessons, the Latin stage, and the Family Stage offering fun and music for kids and adults alike. The Festival includes the first-ever Redwood City Salsa Competition with judges awarding the best salsas in several categories – with a $500 cash prize going to “best in show.” And, festival-goers will be able to purchase a tasting kit which they can use to cast their vote for the “People’s Choice Award.”
Fun activities for the entire family will be going on all day, like our Parks Department’s very popular hands-on art projects, murals, and chalk art; also bounce houses, City and community booths, wild and unusual Art Cars on display, and local restaurants offering their delicious fares.
Our famous Art on the Square – a series of juried outdoor art shows presented by Redwood City and its Civic Cultural Commission and Redevelopment Agency - will also be there all day long, as well as the night before (September 19) as part of Music on the Square.
Much of the event takes place on Broadway between Middlefield and Hamilton, at Courthouse Square, and on beautiful Theatre Way with its retail shops and restaurants complete with outdoor dining. Theatre Way and parts of Broadway will be pedestrian-only, making this a family-friendly event not to miss!
Downtown Redwood City, with its lively and active music, theater, dining, and shopping scene, is truly the heart of the community and is quickly becoming the entertainment hub of the San Francisco Peninsula. Plus, Redwood City's Caltrain station is just a short walk from Downtown making it simple to get there without a car. Everyone is invited to join in Redwood City's Salsa Festival and celebrate the culture and heart of the Peninsula. It's going to be hot!
