Friends of the Library Presents: Experience Australia, New Zealand, and Fiji; and Meet the Author of “Only a Girl”
Redwood City, CA - August 9, 2011 - The Friends of the Redwood City Library are sponsoring two great, free community events in August at the Downtown Library. These two events represent the diverse, interesting, fun, and enlightening programs that are available at the Redwood City Public Library. - Saturday, August 13, 2 pm – Destination - Australia, New Zealand & Fiji with Linda Margolin, Travel Expert. Linda Margolin has been a travel agent for over 30 years, and an Aussie Specialist since 1992. An Opal Award Winner from Tourism Australia, she has a deep passion and love for this amazing country. She’s traveled throughout Australia over 39 times and will share her deep, unique perspective on these incredible destinations. Location: Fireplace Room at the Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Road.
- Thursday, August 25, 7 pm – Meet the Author – Lian Gouw, author of Only a Girl. In the critically acclaimed novel Only a Girl, three generations of Chinese women struggle for identity against a political backdrop of the World Depression, World War II, and the Indonesian Revolution. The complexity of Chinese society in Indonesia is revealed through the challenges Lian’s central characters face. Lian Gouw was born in Jakarta, Indonesia, then a Dutch colony known as the Netherlands’ East Indies. Lian explores themes of human relationships, and is particularly interested in the lives and struggles of women. Location: Community Room, Downtown Library, 1044 Middlefield Road.
