City Council Committee to Examine Options on Saltworks Development Application
Redwood City, CA - April 26, 2012 - Redwood City Mayor Alicia Aguirre announced last Monday night the appointment of Councilmembers Barbara Pierce and Jeff Ira to an ad-hoc committee to research, review, and report to the Council on the City’s options regarding the Saltworks development application. The committee will focus its efforts on examining the City’s options related to the existing application, which has been on file with the City for almost three years. That application included a project description that DMB, in November of last year, said it was going to revise and resubmit to the City. To date, DMB has not submitted a revised project description so the City cannot begin the City-led environmental review process that it once intended to pursue. In the ensuing period, the City has heard from many opponents and proponents of the project. With no revised project description on file, the City Council would like to re-examine its original course and identify options currently available to the Council. It is anticipated that this committee will bring its findings to the City Council for discussion at the meeting of May 21, 2012.
“I’d like the City Council to examine what we should do about the application that is before us, and understand the options available if and when we do get a new project description,” the Mayor stated. The ad-hoc committee will work with the City staff to develop the range of options for Council discussion.
