 Hoover Park Grand Re-Opening!

Hoover Park, Woodside Road at Spring Street

For six months, the sports field and playground at Hoover Park have been closed as the City makes some major improvements for the community’s enjoyment.
Now, everyone in the nearby neighborhoods and the entire community are invited to join in the celebration for the Grand Re-Opening of Hoover Park!

Everyone can try out the new synthetic sports fields, experience the new expanded playground area and equipment, and enjoy giveaways and fun sponsor/vendor booths. Plus, the FC Gold Pride Women’s Professional Soccer team players and their mascot, Pounce, will be on hand to meet local soccer families and sign autographs. Redwood City the Only Bay Area Stop on “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” Train Tour - Coming to Town June 26-28

From sneak peeks of exclusive 3D “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” film footage, to summertime snow, Disney Studios is pulling out all the whistle stops and taking its show on the road with a spectacular immersive and interactive 40-city train tour! And Redwood City will be the only Bay Area stop on Disney Studios’ 40-city train tour promoting the upcoming animated movie “Disney’s A Christmas Carol” starring Jim Carrey.

This special train and its totally FREE attractions will spend three days on the tracks on:

Get your running shoes out for our 34th Annual - PARADE FUN RUN.
This unique race circles around the parade route in front of 40,000 spectators cheering you on. Awards will be given to the 1st & 2nd place finishers from each division.

FC Gold Pride, the new Women’s Professional Soccer team is collaborating with Redwood City PRCS to bring Bay Area youth, high quality soccer training by the professional players themselves during several specialty camps this summer.  Participants will be coached by players including Rachel Buehler, Nicole Barnhart, Carrie Dew, Christine Sinclair, and many other Pride players and our Academy coaches.  Encouragement and coaching from professional players will help inspire your child and bring exceptional role models into their lives.  Specialized camps are offered in both half day and full day sessions to build your child’s soccer proficiency through training in foot work, goalkeeping, defensive and offensive technique and elite/college preparation.   Register today through Redwood City Parks and Recreation and join the fun at Red Morton Park this summer.   Visit www.FCGoldPrideAcademy.com for more program information or call 408-541-3224 with your questions.

Skateboarding Camp Xtreme
Entering grades K-3 and 4-8

Skateboarding camps are a great place to get skateboarding lessons, and to challenge yourself to become a better skateboarder and learn new tricks. Skateboard camps are also great places to make new friends and build self-confidence. Enjoy this awesome sport with a focus on skateboarding safety, fundamentals, technique as well as balance and coordination offered by Core Boardshop’s experienced skateboarding instructors. Each session will consist of skateboarding lessons, snack time, game time and play time.
Helmets are required and safety pads are strongly recommended. Parents must sign waiver form with registration.

Program Information: The 8-10 year olds will be play games on Monday/Wednesday at 4:30pm or 6:00pm. The T-Ball program will meet T/Th from 4-5pm and/or 5-6pm depending on the number of teams/participants. Practice will begin the week of June 22nd. The practice schedule is based on the coach’s availability and participants will be contacted by their coach after the coaches meeting on June 17th. Program T-Shirt will be provided. Please bring baseball glove and cleats are recommended.

 Senior Center Chevy’s Fundraiser

Please join us for a delicious meal at Chevy's in Redwood City and help support the Redwood City Veterans Memorial Senior Center.  Chevy’s will donate 25% of the proceeds from your meal to our program! To get credit for your meals, make sure you present our fundraising flyer to the server. The server will attach it to the receipt and give it to the manager. At the end of the event, Chevy’s will count the receipts and figure the amount of the donation.  It’s that easy!  Eat well and support a wonderful cause.  To obtain additional fundraising fliers, please contact Christina at (650) 780-7343 or pick some up throughout the lobby of the Veterans Memorial Senior Center!

Father’s Day Tribute Lunch
Friday, June 19th • Noon-2pm

Join the Veterans Memorial Senior Center as we pay tribute to the men in our lives. Fathers, sons and grandsons are encouraged to join us for this special luncheon. All fathers will receive a special gift. Individuals are also encouraged to send us photos and stories of their fathers for a special display in the Veterans Memorial Senior Center Lobby. New Member/Volunteer Orientation
Thursday, June 25th •7:00-8:15pm

All new and “old” patrons and volunteers are welcome to join us for a discussion of all our Center has to offer, a tour of the campus, and refreshments. The changing of the seasons with an elegant and fun Spring Tea Dance. Afternoon will consist of coffee, tea, biscuits and cookies along with music destined to put a “spring” in your step. No reservations required, pay at the door. Fee: $10

4th of July Dog Days of Summer
Thursday, July 2nd • Noon-2pm

Bring your lawn chairs, flags and dogs for this patriotic outdoor celebration 4th of July. Games for people and dogs will be provided and a hot dog/hamburger BBQ will be served on the grass of the VMSC. This will be a per-friendly celebration, so bring those pooches and they will receive a special gift. Optional indoor dining will also be provided, however dogs cannot be accommodated within the Senior Center. Fee: $8 per human/Dogs FREE!
