Letter to Editor
Submitted to SF Chronicle - 7/31/09
Your July 24, 2009 editorial (“Bay at Risk”) contained a fundamental error regarding the proposed Cargill development in Redwood City, by stating that the project “has the support of the City Council.” This is not the case – the City Council does not have a position on the proposal, nor will its members take a position until an exhaustive public and environmental review process takes place.
When a complete development application is submitted, we are required by law to review it. Through a comprehensive community outreach and environmental review process, the Council will develop our positions on the proposal. We are only at the beginning of that process, and certainly do not yet have the necessary details and analysis of the project’s potential impacts.
The City has created a neutral, fact-based web page (www.redwoodcity.org/saltworks) for community information about the project.
This error is significant enough to require a correction on the editorial pages, which we hope to see very quickly.
Sincerely,
Rosanne Foust
Mayor, City of Redwood City
