Occupy Redwood City Forms 'Occupy Saltworks'
The group will be protesting the project outside the developer's offices.
Redwood City Patch, 4/23/12
Members of Occupy Redwood City have formed a new group targeting a planned Bayfront development.
The group Occupy Saltworks will protest the planned Saltworks development with a series of actions, starting Monday with a protest outside the offices of developer DMB Associates.
The Saltworks project is planned on more than 2.2 square miles of Bayfront property formerly used for salt harvesting by Cargill. The proposal, which could involve as many as 12,000 homes as well as new office buildings, schools, playing fields and restored wetlands, has drawn fire from residents due to concerns about environmental, traffic and other impacts.
The project, which is still undergoing a lengthy environmental review process, has proved so divisive that city officials are reportedly considering placing it on the ballot for a public vote.
Occupy Saltworks members plan to be at the DMB Associates office at 1700 Seaport Blvd., Suite 200, Redwood City, at around 3 p.m.
