Reserve Officer Program

The Redwood City Police Department's reserve unit is comprised of volunteers who have met the California Peace Officers Standards and Training requirements and have been certified by the state. They also undergo a field-training program much like that of a regular Redwood City Officer. Once all training has been completed they are required maintain 20 hours of patrol duty each month, and attend training meetings.

Citizens interested in becoming reserve officers should call officer Peter Cang at 650.780.7100 X 5021

How do I get started as a reserve officer?

Attending the POST Modular Academy is a good beginning. Classes are held at Evergreen Community College and College of San Mateo. You don't need to have an agency affiliation to attend. You will need to attend all three POST Modular Academy courses before applying for RCPD.

What sort of duties can I work as a reserve officer?

Reserve Officers generally work patrol duties while in training. Level II Reserve Officers can make arrests and perform other officer duties with supervision. Level I Reserve Officers can do anything regular police officers do, including solo patrol work. Level II and Level I Reserves also work a variety of paid special event and private hire details.
